Frequently Asked Questions
Q:The event is an American Field Event -
can dogs that aren't registered with the Field dog Stud book enter?
A: Yes, the event is open to all registerable AKC and FDSB Vizslas.
There is no requirement to be registered with American Field.
However, the win will not be recorded in FDSB towards it's winning
record (but bragging rights and the notoriety remain regardless!)
Q: How long after a litter is whelped do
we have to nominate the litter?
A: The litter needs to be nominated within 90 days of whelp with no
penalty fees. Litters can be nominated from between 90 days
and six months with an additional penalty fee. No litters are
eligible to be nominated beyond the six months.
Q: I bought a pup from a breeder that
didn't nominate the litter - can I nominate my dog on my own?
A: Well the first thing you should do is express your dissapointment
with your breeder for not nominating the litter! And when
you're done with that, yes - the individual dog can be nominated by
the Owner should the breeder fail to nominate the litter.
There is a timeline of up to 9 months of age for an individual to
nominate the dog without Penalty. There is an increased cost
between 9-12 months, and an even higher increased cost after 1 year
of age right up until close of Entries for the event.
Q: Why are individual dogs so much more
expensive than a litter nomination?
A: In essence, up to a year they are essentially the same cost.
The intent is for breeders to showcase their breeding programs by
nominating and promoting their litters. The individual
nomination fees go exponentially higher after a year to encourage
people to sign up the litters and individual dogs to nominate their
pups, but still leave an opportunity for master procrastinators to
participate.
Q: This is an American Field event - why
do the dogs have to point a bird?
A: The American Field sets a minimum criteria for a derby which
allows placement of a dog based on overall hunt and application
without the pointed bird requirement. As this event is to
showcase the best of the breed in the Western United States, the
bird is required for placement to raise the bar and illustrate not
only hunt, but also bird finding ability and style on game.
